Christmas with CCO started on Saturday morning, 2nd December. We were delighted to visit Elm Hall Nursing Home, Celbridge, where we played a selection of popular and traditional Chrismtas songs and had the pleasure of being joined by the clients in singing along.
On Sunday 3rd December, a small group of CCO wind, string and percussion players entertained the shoppers at the Purple Lama Market, Castletown gates, Celbridge, adding to the festive atmosphere.
To round off the Festive Season, CCO presented an "Afternoon of Light Classics and Festive Favourites" in the magnificent setting of Christ Church, Castletown Gates, Celbridge on Sunday 10th December 2023.
To a packed audience, the CCO opened the concert with The "Prelude from Te Deum" by Charpentier, followed by 2 pieces by Handel. La Rejouissance ( from the Royal Fireworks) & Hornpipe (from the Water Music). To conclude the light classic section the CCO played "Stay with Me" from an adaptation of the second part of Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A Major and "Finale" from Symphony No 1 by Brahms.
Joy to the World opened the Festive Favourite selection. Followed by arrangements of the traditional carols , Hark the Herald Angels sing, O Come all ye Faithful, Angels in the Bleak Midwinter and Carol of the Bells.
The orchestra was joined by Ms Sarah Darlington and some members of St. Mary's Church Choir, Maynooth, who sang "Silver Bells and White Christmas".
Children from the audience gathered infront of the CCO and sang Rudolph the Red Nosed reindeer to the delighted of all in attendance.
The Concert concluded with a Christmas Medley of Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride", "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree" by Johnny Marks, and "Let It Snow" by Chan & Styne.
